Garlicky Fettucine Alfredo

1 16-oz pkg fettuccine
2 Tbsp minced garlic
¼ cup butter
2 cups heavy cream
3 cups freshly grated Parmesan cheese
½ cup chopped fresh parsley (optional)
To taste Freshly ground pepper
Cook pasta according to package directions; drain and keep warm.
Meanwhile, sauté garlic in melted butter in a large saucepan or skillet over medium heat until fragrant. Stir in cream; cook, whisking, until thick and bubbly.
Remove from heat; whisk in half of cheese until melted. Add pasta, and toss.
Sprinkle with remaining cheese and parsley. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve hot.
