“Extra care was taken in selecting the specific fruit, fermentation methods and French oak barrels to produce this exclusive, once in a lifetime Pinot Noir,” said Sonoma-Cutrer Director of Winemaking, Mick Schroeter. “This 2017 vintage of our Winemakers Release highlights the artistry and innovation of our winemaking and Pinot Noir craftsmanship.”
This year’s Winemaker’s Release is a beautiful, reddish-purple color. On the nose, complex aromas of dark blackberry and black ripe plum fruit mingle with provocative juniper spice, cinnamon, cedar wood and earth notes. This well-structured Pinot Noir offers good oak integration and firm, polished tannins. The flavors in this wine showcase an abundance of savory tension and complexity that round out to lively fresh acidity with a juicy, lingering finish.Download Winemaker Notes

Our largest vineyard at Vine Hill Ranch is comprised of 400 acres that were once part of one of the area’s most renowned horse farms. Its gently rolling hills face southwest, and horses still monitor the daily progress of the grapes from afar. The vineyard has a 400-foot elevation change from ridge to valley. Its deep, sandy loam, known as Goldridge, and moderate temperature fluctuation are perfect for growing grapes for our Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
Vine Hill is becoming an important part of our limited-production Pinot Noir because of its maturing blocks of Pinot Noir vines.
